Poppy Appeal Launch 2014

The City of Armagh Branch has shown its fundraising skills by once again improving on its Poppy Appeal total.  At the end of the collection and when returns were made to The Poppy Village in September 2013, the Branch had raised £21,706.74.

As of January 2015 the amount raised is £24,130.68

Poppy Appeal Organiser for our Branch, D. Hammerton remarked

“The support and generosity of all the community within Armagh City and district in those areas in which we collect never fails to astound me year upon year.  There is clear support for our Armed Forces, and an obvious desire to help those who are serving, or have served, and who are in need of help or assistance.  I cannot thank everyone enough”.

The Deputy Lord Mayor of Armagh City and District Council, Councillor Joy Rollston, attended our 2014/15 Poppy Launch in the Legion premises in Dobbin Street on Thursday 23rd October 2014.

We invited the Deputy Lord Mayor to present all of those Poppy Sellers who were due to receive awards, and who were available to attend the launch, with their Awards.  These Awards ranged from 5 Year Awards for those receiving their first recognition, to two 35 Year Awards, with many others in between.

I would like to finish by thanking each one of the volunteers who work so selflessly to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal – our Branch, and indeed the Royal British Legion as a whole is enriched by your contributions of time and commitment.   I would also like to thank the people of the district, the retailers and businesses, and our local Councillors who support our Annual Appeal year after year, and who donate so generously.  We are so very grateful for all of this generous support.”
