Background and Context

The Royal British Legion (RBL) itself was founded on 15th May 1921 to support ex-service personnel, veterans, and their families following the First World War. After its formation, local branches were created across the UK to enable community based support, welfare work, and Remembrance activities.

Establishment of the Armagh Branch

The City of Armagh Branch specifically was founded in 1925, over the years it has been involved in a wide range of activities, including sponsoring Remembrance Day events, participating in the Poppy Appeal and providing financial, social and emotional support to members of the Armed Forces community both past and present.

Milestones

In 2000 the Branch opened new premises officially inaugurated by The Lord Lieutant of County Armagh the RT Hon The Earl of Caledon JP.

The Branch continues to operate actively, engaging with the local community through ceremonial events, fundraising and welfare programs.

In summary, the Armagh branch has a long standing presence in the community, serving local veterans and promoting the work of the Royal British Legion since 1925.
