Affiliated Youth Group raise
over £2000 and donate half to the
Aldershot Poppy Appeal.
The Aldershot Branch have consolidated their relationship with the 2nd Aldershot Scout Group by jointly completing a 100 Km sponsored relay run around Manor Park in Aldershot. This was done to mark the 100th Anniversary of the Royal British Legion.
A continuous stream of runners and walkers went around Manor Park and in total 82 runners took part. A feat of co-ordination in these strange times!
Certificates were presented by, amongst others, the Aldershot RBL Chairman and the Blackwater Valley Scout District Commissioner, Emma Buckett. Great fun was had by all participants and the last leg was completed just after 1745 by the Scout Group Chairman, Simon Harper, emphasising the great relationship the Branch have with the Group.
Each participant will get a RBL 100th Anniversary Pin which I know they will wear with pride as they have earned it.
So after nearly 12 hours of movement, fun and effort the 100k goal had been achieved. It was great to get out and about again and work with our affiliated Youth Group and our thanks goes to all who took part and also those who sponsored them. The money raised will be shared equally between the Scout Group and the Poppy Appeal.
We have also continued our attempts to raise our profile by obtaining 3 full page articles in the “Garrison Magazine”. This will cover the whole of the 100th year and the first article about the RBL’s history went out a few weeks ago. This goes out to all the Aldershot Garrison and it is hoped we will be able to work on our association with them in future years.
