Aberystwyth

The Aberystwyth Branch was first established in 1921 and has been in exitance in one form or another ever since.

Aberystwyth Branch is very fortunate to have the iconic War Memorial at Castle Point where we hold the Act of Remembrance on Remembrance Sunday at 1100.

Built in 1922 to a design by Mario Rutelli of Italy, using stone from Ystrad Meurig quarry at a cost of £7000 (the equivalent of £330,000 in 2023). The War Memorial was unveiled on the 14th of September 1923 with great crowds in attendance with local schools closing for the day to allow the children to attend.

The winged figure on top of the column represents Victory. At the foot of the column a naked women emerging from tangled foliage, representing Humanity rising from the chaos of war.

Lest we forget.

A Plaque in English and Welsh was unveiled on site on the 14th of September 2023 by the Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed along with other dignitaries with the Branch being represented by the President, Chairman, Secretary and others.
