West Felton

At the Legion meeting on Monday 3rd March the Act of Homage was led by Chairman Keith Diggens who especially called to mind our late friend, Barry Barnes, also Glennys Allen who was gravely ill. It was later learned that Glennys passed away that evening just as members were thinking of her.

The correspondence included a card from Mrs Dorothy Barnes thanking the members for their attendance at Barry’s funeral and all their help during his illness.

Members commented on the fact that the Methodist Chapel and all its rooms and corridors were full to standing room only on 19th February, a fitting tribute to Barry and to Dorothy. The Orthopaedic Choir sang splendidly at the crematorium, their music was well chosen and deeply affected all the congregation. The WI members provided the funeral tea with their usual generosity.

ANNUAL DINNER - Friday 16th May 2014 at Sweeney Hall Hotel. The menu was chosen, the bus has been booked, letters will go out soon - now all that is needed is the company of family and friends.

WWI COMMEMORATIONS - Sunday 22nd June - arrangements are well in hand. Liaison with PCC and school continues.

NESSCLIFFE TRAINING CAMP OPEN DAY - Saturday 16th August 2pm-6pm. Bob Spencer is on the local organising committee. There will be a West Felton branch presence with Standard, stall, memorabilia etc. This promises be a very exciting day with full armed forces involvement and culminating in a Drumhead service.

The next meeting will be on Monday 7th April at The Punch Bowl, 8pm.
