West Felton

DECEMBER 2013 MEETING

The branch met in the Punch Bowl on 2 December. Official correspondence was dealt with and two members agreed to attend a meeting in Telford in January where they will receive an update from Area Management on the new way of working in the Legion.

Members agreed that all the Remembrance events went off extremely well, thanks to the goodwill and dedication of  the active members. Eileen Hanmer, Christine Curtis and Dorothy Barnes were thanked for their catering support at the concert, which raised £560; many thanks to everyone who supplied food and raffle prizes. Letters were sent to Mrs Maddocks at the School and St Michael’s PCC who donated to the Poppy Appeal £177 of the collection on Remembrance Sunday. The Orthopaedic Choir’s generous donation of £50 for the Poppy Appeal was also gratefully acknowledged. The branch wishes to thank all who supported these events.

POPPY APPEAL - The house-to-house and shop collections this year yielded much the same as last year, a very good result in this economic climate. Members proposed a vote of thanks to Mike Johnson and his wonderful band of collectors and to Des and Colleen Hughes for their help. It was noted that the counting and carrying of a large amount of coins is an arduous job and it appears that the banks are now less than helpful when one goes to lodge the cash. They used to assist voluntarily and with enthusiasm.

Apologies for absence were received, amongst others, from Barry Barnes was in hospital and Griff Evans recovering from an operation. Members were anxious to know how they were doing and sent their good wishes for a speedy recovery for them both.

ANNUAL DINNER - It was agreed that the dinner would be at The Sweeney Hall Hotel on Friday 16th May. Family, friends and supporters are invited to put this date in their diaries now, more details after Christmas.

There being none in January, the next meeting will be Monday 3rd February 2014.
