WAR MEMORIAL - Following the discovery that some Roll of Honour names were missing from the war memorial, it was confirmed that a grant of £370 had been won from the Local Joint Committee for the purchase and fitting of a new engraved slate plaque. The order has been placed with the masons.

Shropshire's Commemorative First World War Appeal... St. Chad's Church Project: Shropshire's Sacrifice in the Great War.

Shrewsbury's civic church, St Chad’s, is leading an Appeal Project to commemorate the lives lost in The Great War. The church will be hosting special services from 24th August 2014 to 28th June 2019 to remember every single man and woman that made the ultimate sacrifice 100 years ago; and they are producing a new Roll of Honour to ensure that all the names of people who died are recorded for posterity. Organisers of the appeal are asking for people to come forward with the names of the men and women who are featured on the county's war memorials.

The new information and updated details of the names of lives lost will then be entered in a new Roll of Honour commemorative book. St Chad’s will display the new leather-bound Roll of Honour next to the original version which will be accessible to everyone.

Soft bound copies of the Roll will be published and distributed around the county so that it is easily accessible to the people of Shropshire, visitors and researchers. Details will also be on a new dedicated website. The branch is in correspondence with them and has sent all available information, for which they are very grateful.

ANNUAL DINNER - Menus and payment were due by 19th April.

WWI COMMEMORATIONS,  22 June, St Michael’s Church - Members were invited to lend any inherited memorabilia from 1914-18 for the display. War Memorial names research is well underway. Tony Harrison and his team of volunteers at Oswestry Library have been most generous with their time. CATERING: Members and wives are requested to provide donations of food or cash for the catering of the supper.

The next meeting will be on Monday 12th of May in the village hall, 8pm.■
