24 Hour Row Challenge

HMS Raleigh 24 hour Row Challenge

On the 20th+21st November 2010 a 24 hour marathon row took place at HMS Raleigh- Torpoint.  It was the idea of Ed Damulira, Jim Broadhead and Phil Nicholson all of who who had recently joined the Torpoint & District Branch of the Royal British Legion (having attended one of the Chairman's Recruiting Briefs) and recently Passed In to the Royal Navy from Basic Training.

The Branch Chairman completed 2 stints; the very first and one near to the end and was also joined by the Branch Parade Marshall and Deputy Standard Bearer Colin Prideaux.  Ed Damulira completed 6 x 30 minute stints over the 24 hour period and had the honour of completing the final 30 minutes.  The Commanding Officer of HMS Raleigh, Captain Steve Murdoch, also took part and spoke passionately at the end of the Row explaining why he was a Torpoint & District Branch Member and why others should follow.

A cheque for £230 was presented by LLogs Crash Evans to the Steve for the Poppy Appeal.

The Torpoint & District Branch of the Royal British Legion conveys their Sincere Thanks to Ed, Jim and Phil for their great effort in assisting the Poppy Appeal.
