Welcome to the Stibbington & District Branch of The Royal British Legion
The above picture shows the then President of our branch, David Powell, MBE, after presention with the RBL Gold Medal on 1st May 2009. The award was presented by Terry Smith, County President. The presentation was held in the RBL Christie Hall, Wansford to celebrate the re-opening of the hall after its refurbishment.
David Oldrid Powell, a retired Royal Marine officer, joined the Legion well before 1972. He served on the Branch Committee for many years and held office as President, Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. He also organised the Poppy Appeal for 14 years before handing over to the present Vice Chairman in 2009.
Sadly, David Oldrid Powell died on 3rd October 2012, aged 95. His funeral at St Andrew's Church, Thornhaugh on 19th October was attended by a very large number of his faimily, friends, and neighbours. He was a most remarkable man whose energy and guidance inspired us all over so many years. He will be very deeply missed by so many.
