Standish

Sunday 10th July.

We completed a sponsored bike ride from St. Maries Church, Standish to Byng House, Promanade, Southport. A distance is approximately 18.1 miles and was open to all who would enjoy a ride out on their bikes.

The route was marshaled, and numerous water stops on the route.

THE ROUTE.

The bikers left at 07:45 and the route took us down busy main roads out of Standish and up some "rather" small hills, and up and over Parbold Hill. Parbold Hill was the worrying part, hoping your brakes worked at the bottom, and avoiding the speed camera at the bottom. We passed a water stop and onward. As the roads seemed to get longer and the end no where nearer, we peddled on. The weather was kind to us, not hot nor cold, a little rain but not enough to dampen our spirits. Last man arrived at our finish point Byng House, Promanade, Southport 1 hour and 40 min's later, a total distance of 18.1 miles. When we arrived at Byng House, we were treated like Royalty and had a small tour of the House, and what an eye opener ! The Place was immaculate, like a 5 star hotel. we had numerous photo calls inside and out, even the residents got in on the photo's.

Transport home to Standish was a coach, our bikes went onto the back of a pick up vehicle, Thanks to Ainscough's for proving the pick up. On the route back to Standish, the heavens opened and rain fell "in bucket loads" we were lucky !!

We all went back to the Standish Unity Club, were our ladies of the Branch put on a superb buffet.

Our thanks go to - Ainscough's, marshal's, water providers, and our ladies (buffet) residents of Byng House (for making us feel like king's & queen's) and last but not least....the bike riders, especially the none members of the standish branch, who raised the sponsor money and MADE IT ! Well done all.

At 7am Branch Members and a few riders gathered for the Sponsored bike ride from Standish to Southport. By 7:45am our riding contingent were ready to set out on the ride to Byng House, Promenade, Southport. A toatl of 18.1 miles lay ahead.
