Ruddington

The Autumn Fair organised by the Ruddington & District Branch of the Royal British Legion will launch the 2015/16 Poppy Appeal on Saturday 24th October in the St Peters Rooms from 10 am to 12 noon. Last year under the direction of our Poppy Appeal Organiser        Mr Harry Newton the area raised the amazing total of £10,771.92 which went towards supporting Armed Forces Personnel and their Families. All are welcome to attend and come and see what is on offer.

The Ruddington Branch was formed in 1935 and later became Ruddington & District Branch. Now 80 years on the branch desperately needs more support in order to continue. The membership remains fairly static with around 40 members many of whom are of mature years and the branch now needs some younger blood. The number of active members who attend meetings and carry out the running of the branch has dropped from 20 to often only 6 over the last few years and for 2 months this year no meeting has been held because not enough members were present.

The Annual AGM will be held on Thursday 5th November at 8pm in the St Peters Rooms when the present Secretary and Treasurer are standing down. As the Royal British Legion moves forward into the 21st Century it is increasingly using modern technology and the incoming Officers need to be able to embrace this. If you feel that you would like to take on these rolls (or it could be combined) please contact the present Secretary or Chairman for more details as below.

It is hoped that these positions can be successfully filled and that in this the 80th year of the Branch that it does not have to close. I am sure that the Poppy Appeal in Ruddington will still continue to raise much needed funds. All interested parties are invited to attend and put forward suggestions as to how the Branch can continue.
