Rishton

Below is a list of dates for your diary on what's happening / happened involving the Rishton Branch of The Royal British Legion.

Rishton Branch meetings start at 13.00 pm on 1st Sunday in the month and are held in the small downstairs meeting room in Rishton Conservative Club, Cliffe St, Rishton. From November 2015 meetings are being held in The Roebuck Inn, High St, Rishton ; times and date remain the same.

We are hosting an East Lancs RBL Branch Poppy Party at Rishton Conservative Club on Sunday 12th June 2011 from 1.00pm onwards, everyone is very welcome.  There will be a small charge for admission to cover costs.  Come and join us for the National Toast at 4.00pm

Remembrance Day Parade 13th November 2011 from  St Charles RC church  and then the march to the cenotaph Blackburn Rd and back down to the library car park.  This will be followed again by a family  fun afternoon and evening at Rishton Conservative Club with food, entertainment, raffles and lots more. Please come and enjoy yourself and support your local branch of the Royal British Legion.

AGM, 10th Dec 2011, 16.00 pm Tory Club concert room and Xmas party 28th Dec is Sport and Social club 18.30 pm.

Remembrance Day Parade 11th November 2012 from St Peter & St Paul's Parish Church and then the march to the cenotaph Blackburn Rd and back down to the library car park.  This will be followed again by a family  fun afternoon and evening at Rishton Conservative Club with food, entertainment, raffles and lots more. Please come and enjoy yourself and support your local branch of the Royal British Legion.

Dedication of Rishton's new  Royal British Legion Standard at St Peter & St Paul's Parish Church at 16.00pm followed by a (free) light refreshments and entertainment by a professional entertainer from 21.00 pm in Rishton Tory club.

Armed Forces Day, 29th June 2013.  The parade leaves from the library to the cenotaph for a  short service with the raising of the Veteran's flag by Rishton's own serving Marine Adie Guilfoyle, followed by a social afternoon in Rishton Tory club with light refreshments (free of charge).

A huge thank you goes to Morrison's Blackburn who have donated cakes and given the branch a discount on sandwiches for the Remembrance Day celebration event from 1.00pm in the Tory Club. Thanks too to Rishton & Gt Harwood Rotary club for assistance with marshalling for the parade and Malcolm Ward for driving the minibus.

Members Social Evening 22nd March 2013 Rishton Balti House from 7.30 pm had 19 members in attendance. There was a great  Indian buffet, plenty of drinks and a brilliant atmosphere. Members said they would like this to take place again.

Rishton Royal British Legion has raised funds and purchased a Standard  (Rishton's) and accessories. This was leading the parade  at Rishton's Festival in July 2014 but as yet to be dedicated,so watch this space for notice about this and future events.

Heritage Morning 8th Nov' 2014 Rishton library where local residents could bring along their memorabilia, stories to share and undertake research with others, which included; Eric Nolan (BBC Radio Lancashire), Rishton library staff, (Wendy & Matt), Jo Troughton and pupils from St Charles's R.C. P. School, Dave Hill, Mick Bibby and Rishton RBL Veterans.

Remembrance Day Event  9th Nov' 2014 took place after the civic Parade  in Rishton Tory Club, but was not as well attended as in previous years.  The branch would like to give a big thank you to :-Morrison's Blackburn who kindly gave the branch discount on the platters of sandwiches and donated a mixture of cakes and tarts for the celebrations.  BHS Bury who kindly loaned the branch a partial manikin to display 'Tommy'. Mr Topham who donated the milk for free brews. Frank Fielding's daughter Mandy for her cup cakes. Thanks too to Rishton & Gt Harwood Rotary club for assistance with marshalling for the parade and Malcolm Ward for driving the minibus. Thank you to all those who assisted or participated.

Thank you to  the  those pupils from Norden High School Rishton who volunteered selling poppies in 2015 and  to Morrison's Supermarket Blackburn for their donation of sandwiches for the poppy sellers. A big thank you to Kodie MacDonald, also a pupil at Norden for singing at the cenotaph giving it that special moment and to those at Norden who made a lovely banner for the 11.11.15 at the cenotaph.  A huge thank you to Diane and her staff at The Roebuck  Inn, Rishton for a late after Remembrance Day Parade event,  and Craig Wilde for the entertainment at such short notice. Everyone had a good time- thanks to you all and those who supported us again.
