Memorial Service Roermond April 2017

On Sunday, the 2nd April 2017 Members of the Rheindahlen Branch of The Royal British Legion took part in the.

 Act of Remberance at Roermond,  Holland

 For 9 RAF and RCAF air crew and 13 men and women of the Dutch Resistance as well the members of the Dutch Military who lost their lives for the freedom of Holland and are buried at the old cemetery in Roermond

 The service was organised by Lt Col (Ret’d) Math Weijers Chairman of the Roermond Branch of the Wapenbroeders.

The Service was led by the Dean of Roermond  Mgr Rob Merkx

                                 And the Rev (Wg Cdr) Mitchell

After the service, a procession starting at the Chapel, led by the Pipers, Standard Bearer’s of the Wapenbroeders and The Royal British Legion (Holland), went around a very Old well kept Cemetery, finishing again at the Chapel

We visited the 13 graves of the Dutch Resistance where a short history of each person was told by John Vaessen, and at the graves of the 9 RAF and RCAF air crew members Wreaths  and flowers were laid at all the graves.

After the ceremony we were all invited to coffee and  “Limburgse Vlaai” at “Aad Remunj”

A sombre but very nice afternoon,
