Welcome to the Paphos Branch of The Royal British Legion

Since 2010, and probably some years before, many individuals in Paphos had expressed the idea of forming a Branch of The Royal British Legion.

It was, however, not until the 07 Jan 2014 that David Rees guided by the Membership Support Officer Overseas was able to start the process of forming a Branch.

On the 19 Jan 2014 a meeting of 5 members and 14 potential members was held at the Ideal Café in Paphos where the following Resolution was accepted:

“That this meeting hereby accepts the objects of the Royal Charter, The Schedule of Rules and The Governing Regulations of The Royal British Legion and formerly establishes a Branch”.

The minutes of this meeting were sent to the Membership Support Officer Overseas along with the form MS9.

On the 05 Mar 2014 The Royal British Legion Membership Council agreed to allow the opening of a Branch in Paphos Cyprus.

The period 05 Mar 2014 to the 27 Mar 2014 is an important period that coincided with the 50th Anniversary of United Nations Resolution 186 (1964) which saw the creation of UNFICYP (United Nations Peacekeeping Force In Cyprus) which on the 27 Mar 1964 became operationally established in Cyprus.

On the 24 April 2014 the Paphos Branch held its first official Branch Meeting being the official Formation Meeting, during which a temporary committee was duly elected.
