Oakwood

Below is a list of dates for your diary on what's happening in the Oakwood Branch of The Royal British Legion.

Several years ago our previous President Mr Harry Mycroft became aware of a memorial buried in the undergrowth in Chaddesden park. He persuaded the council to clear the area and found sponsors to clean up the memorial and had a new nameplate attached. He involves several schools in a service each year at Remembrance time and thought it would be more relevant to the children if we had another memorial alongside, to remember those who had given their lives since 1945. This he has achieved and it is a very moving occasion. The Mayor is also in attendance at the service.

Harry also organised, for many years until his death in October 2014, a service at Derby's War Memorial at Nottingham Road Cemetery during the same period and the Mayor attends here also. We are pleased to say that both services will continue.

This year, 2016, the service on Chaddesden Park will be held on Wednesday 9th November at 10am. The school children will join us again and members of the Riders Branch will be in attendance. All are welcome.

The service at the War Memorial in Nottingham Road cemetery will take place on Friday 11th November at 11am. All are welcome.

Oakwood Branch join in the service at the Church on Oakwood on Sunday 13th November. This starts at 10.30am and the Last Post, Silence and Reveille are included in the service at 11am. We are very grateful to the Church on Oakwood for including us in their service at this time.
