The Ladies Group
The Ladies' Group of the Mayfield Royal British Legion was re-formed in August 2014. The group meets for several lunches throughout the year, and aims to raise funds for a charity of the Group's choice each year; the Group has again decided to spport "The Ripple Pond", a registered charity which helps the families of injured/sick servicemen and women throughout the country. The Charity is also supported directly by central funds from The Royal British Legion. More details about the Charity can be found at http://www.theripplepond.co.uk .
Friday 17th March 2017 - A riot of colourful and tasty vegetarian dishes was the order of the day for this lunch. As ever, lots of fun and laughter was had, as well as raising £120 for The Ripple Pond charity.
Thursday 12th May 2016 - As ever a fun "Bring A Plate" lunch was had by all. The group was well attended, and numbers were swelled when some rogue males from the branch turned up to help with the consuming of dessert! The group took a moment to remember Carolyn Freedman, who sadly died in January; a toast was raised to her over some ice-cream, very apt as that is what she always brought. The lunch raised £110 for the Ripple Pond, and it was suggested that the next lunch be a vegetarian lunch.
Friday 26th February 2016 - A second "Beat the Winter Blues" lunch was held, which was another fun event for the whole branch. As ever, the ladies provided a sumptuous selection of desserts. Well done ladies and a near £100 was donated to the Ripple Pond.
Since re-forming to August 2015, the Group raised £568 for The Ripple Pond.
Thursday 27th August 2015 - Another lovely "Bring A Plate" lunch was held and despite the cool summer temperatures there was plenty of warmth amongst the group that gathered. The lunch raised £185, and at the meeting the Group decided to continue supporting "The Ripple Pond" for another year.
Friday 27th February 2015 - A “Beat the Winter Blues” Lunch. A fun fish and chip lunch was followed by a groaning table of delicious desserts, generously made and donated by the Ladies Group. Quizes, raffles and guess the gorgeous baby photos made for a fun lunch, raising funds for the Branch and The Ripple Pond. (See main news and events page for photos).
Thursday 30th October 2014 - A "Bring A Plate" lunch was held at Carole Stilwell's house. It was a wonderfully warm and sunny day, so we were even able to have drinks on the terrace beforehand. Julia Molony gave an interesting talk on "The Ripple Pond", an organisation providing self-help support groups for the extended family/friends of injured service men and women.
The inaugural lunch was held on the 14th August 2014, where great fun was had by all attended, as the pictures below show:
Thanks to our generous hostess.
We plan to meet for lunches/events regularly throughout the year, and are planning a "Beat the Winter Blues" lunch for the whole branch . Keep an eye on the events page for details of dates.
