Welcome to the Market Harborough Branch of The Royal British Legion
The Branch Welfare Officer (now Known as Branch Community Support Representitive) is Betty Ramsay (01858 434923 (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Community Support Volunteers undertake hospital and home visits and make telephone contact with those in need of support. Cases which require financial help are dealt with from County Office. From time to time the Branch may be asked to contribute from its Welfare Fund.
At National Level there is the RBL Helpline open to everyone, 8am to 8pm 7 days a week on 0808 802 8080 for advice and support for serving and ex-service people and dependents. Locally, the County Advice and Information Officer has a monthly 'Pop-in' session in Market Harborough Library and these may lead to Community Support cases.
During recent years, have been a number of applications for holidays at a Legion Poppy Break Centre - Alderson House, Bridlington in the case of successful applicants from this area. This can provide a break for serving and ex-Service people, their partners, dependants and carers. It is means-tested but consideration is always given to a social as well as financial need.
Another form of welfare is the Poppy Calls service which helps those in need with small household maintenance jobs. The service is available via the RBL Helpline.
