 90th Anniversary Dinner at which the Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire,Lady Gratton, District Council Chairman, Cllr. Everett and RBL County Chairman,David Atterbury were Guests  of honour.
An excellent meal and music and a sing-along by DJ Dave Hawke, was enjoyed by the 68 members and guests at the Market Harborough Golf Club

The design by George Fleming as County Recruiting Officer was later adopted by other Legion Counties.

BBC Peoples War Project - We were an "Associate Centre" of the BBC story gathering network (the only one in RBL)

We contributed 70 stories, mostly by Branch members. This was far more than most other "Centres".

We were asked to provide and arrange a display of Members' memorabilia .

Members were asked to talk about their wartime experiences.             more

War Memorials Report on their condition in the Branch area.

Researched and photographed by Norman Banting during the previous year, it was compiled and produced as a single bound   copy by George Seward.


Gala Evening at Harborough  on first night of  WW1 drama "Journey's End".

We undertook ticket sales and arranged a special buffet after the performance  to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal.

Affiliation of local ATC and ACF cadet units Arranged by Brian Marshall as newly appointed Youth Officer, these were the first cadet affiliations in the County.      more

Storage Cabin purchased and equipped.

This high quality, secure portable unit, was mainly for the Poppy Appeal. MH Rugby Club kindly allowed it to be sited at their ground.     more

In Touch web-site launched. Each issue was retained on the site so as to become an archive.

Produced for sight impaired members

Memories are Made of This, a 188 page paper-back book of articles from the first six years of In Touch

,Memories are Made of This It was edited, compiled, printed and bound by two members to raise funds for the Branch and Poppy Appeal


Campaign to safeguard the future of the War Memorial at the Cottage hospital.

The hospital faced closure so we secured influential support to our campaign and eventually received NHS assurance that the unique memorial would be preserved.


The Branch provided  a week of events in the Town's Millennium Celebrations


Including the creation of a Garden of Remembrance (repeated each year since), presentation of Books of Remembrance to the town, an exhibition in the Museum, a concert by the Harborough Band, the Remembrance Day Parade and Service and daily Sun-set Ceremonies.

Outing to Poppy Race Day at Newmarket

The first of a number of later days "at the races". Standard carried in the on course parade.


Branch web-site launched.

It was the first in the County and one of the first in RBL and it preceded the HQ site.

We provided  displays about the Branch but the allocated location did not attract the crowds!

Anniversary Concert by the Harborough Band The first of what became an annual event in aid of the Poppy Appeal, usually held in November in the Baptist Church.
Thanksgiving Service for 75th Anniversary Well attended by Standards and members of other branches
Presentation ceremony  for the award of the Legion d'honneur to our oldest member We assisted in organising the Council Civic Reception for Robert Cramp and family. Many members attended but ill health prevented Robert doing so but the Lord Lieutenant later made the presentation at his home.

New Jewels of Office for President and Chairman bought from an anonymous donation.

"Twinning" with an American Legion Post,

Followed personal informal contact. The formal link was unique in RBL. A member of the AL Post visited for a Twinning Ceremony after the New Standard Parade.   more

New standard acquired and dedicated

Service and Parade with Trooping of the Colour ceremony was well supported by other Branches.


Branch Newsletter launched.

Designed to keep Members in touch (hence its name) with Branch activities even if they were unable to attend meetings.

Memorial Stone placed and dedicated  in Welland Park

It is in memory "of all those who gave their lives in the fight for freedom over the years". Sponsorship had been secured for its purchase.
