Welcome to the Lane End Branch of The Royal British Legion

The Royal British Legion is the UK's leading Armed Forces charity and one of its largest membership organisations. Members get together through the network of branches and clubs all over the country and overseas to participate in social, fundraising and welfare activities.

Lane End Branch meets at 07:30pm at the Scout Hut in Wheeler End.

Membership is open to everyone. If you have an interest in the objectives of the Legion and want to help and support for those who have served and their families, come and join us. We welcome men and women of all ages, whether they have served in the Armed Forces or not.

Legion membership ensures that

  • Remembrance is kept alive and that the sacrifices our brave Service men and women have made are never forgotten.
  • The ex-Service community have a voice and that their concerns are brought to the public eye.

Becoming a member also provides the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities and events held locally, regionally and nationally throughout the year.

                                                AGM 2019.

On 21st  July 2018, The Branch held the Annual BBQ at the Chairman’s home off Moor Common. The food was cooked and served by the ladies. The cooking was done by members as was the Raffle which had many prizes. The weather was fine and Billy was in good voice to entertain us all. We raised nearly £400 for the Poppy Appeal.

Friday  13th October 2018 we held our Officers talk in Cadmore End Village Hall. Sgt Marty Ryan Royal Irish from Reserves Airfield base. He spoke of the duties and activities of the team based at the Reserve base by the airfield. He was a good, well informed speaker. He was a good communicator and answered questions at the end of his presentation. We ate sandwiches and drank wine at the end of the meeting. A good time was had by all. We raised  £     for the Poppy Appeal.

In November 2018, We organised and managed the November Poppy Appeal. We faced a crisis in the adjoining area. Their poppy box distribution had collapsed. West Wycombe called upon Andrew for poppy collection boxes. He managed to find and fill 8 boxes. We were helped by Marlow branch with excess stock so we had sufficient to fill them The stock was collected and used. Then it became clear that John Hampden School and other schools in High Wycombe were calling for poppy boxes. Once again, Andrew stepped into the breach and found more bits and pieces, made up extra boxes and delivered them. Ian Harris called for more badges as he had located a market for them. Again Andrew provided.

Hughenden village store then called for a box. Andrew found one, filled and provided it

The Remembrance Parades repeated our usual success in organisation.

Wheeler End short service was a success. Wreaths were laid.

The Lane End parade. The members, 3 reservists from the reservists base, the scouts and guides all marched. 4 wreaths were laid at the porch Memorial. The service went well on the Road and was followed by the Church Service, Standing room only. Many locals attended.

Over the past five years our Poppy Appeal in November for Remembrance Sunday raised the following..

2013 raised £3784.63

2014 raised £4346.43

2015 raised £4041.45

2016 raised £4407.86

2017 raised £4285.92

That’s an impressive £20,866.29

2018 raised £5581.76

British Legion

On Sunday 5th May 2019, the Legion and the scouts held a Quiz and a Raffle in the Grouse and Ale, the local pub. A great evening! This was a first for us, everyone enjoyed themselves and, judging by the happy comments we have had, it will not be the last. We raised £205.00 for the Poppy Appeal.

On 8th June 2019, we attended Lane End fete. We erected and staffed our Legion display tent, but you’ve got to throw horseshoes at a proper village fete, so we arranged to install and run the Horseshoe throwing stand.  We had splendid help from our affiliated scouts and it was all a huge success. The horseshoes raised £52.00 and the tent raised £138.61 for the poppy Appeal. And we found and signed up 6 new members.

The Lane End Branch of the Royal British Legion has launched a Facebook page, where this information and other Legion based facts and events are published on a regular basis. This gives us the ability to reach as large an audience as possible, raising our profile within the community. It’s beginning to pay dividends with many more people becoming aware of us as a Branch and the public response is very positive.

About The Royal British Legion

We provide financial, social and emotional care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces - past and present and their families. The Legion is also the national Custodian of Remembrance and safeguards the Military Covenant between the nation and its Armed Forces and is best known for the annual Poppy Appeal and its emblem the red poppy.

Founded in 1921, the Legion is not just about those who fought in the World Wars of the last century, but also about those involved in the many conflicts since 1945 and those still fighting for the freedom we enjoy today.
