The Royal British Legion - Shoulder to shoulder with all who Serve
WELCOME TO JAVEA BRANCH
IN MEMORIAM - JACK TROUGHTON
It is with great sadness that we learned yesterday of the death of our good friend Jack Troughton. The Branch has known Jack for about 18 years. Each year he would cover all of the RBL Javea events, which included The Poppy Appeal, sponsored walks and our yearly Service of Remembrance, which is held at the Fisherman's Church in Javea Port. He became a good friend of the Legion, reporting on any event that highlighted the work of The Royal British Legion in Spain.
He will be sadly missed by all of our members and our thoughts and condolences go to his wife and family.
STOP PRESS! POPPY APPEAL 2020 RAISES €4433.00
Along with many other charities, this has been a difficult year for the Poppy Appeal for obvious reasons. We're therefore delighted to announce that we still managed to collect €4433.00 towards this year's Poppy Appeal. In fact, the current crisis means that more people than ever are turning to us for support, so we are extremely grateful to all the individuals and businesses who contributed to this total. A particular vote of thanks goes to the ladies of Fitsteps for their amazing donation of €1120.69 but every cent raised will help us to make a real difference to the lives of our many Beneficiaries here in Spain, so thank you all once again.
BRANCH COFFEE MORNINGS RESUME...
Although we are not holding our regular Branch meetings at the moment, we are going to be holding regular coffee mornings under careful social distancing conditions, every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at Paris 24, Avenida de Paris on Javea's Arenal, starting at 10.30am.
If you're already a Branch Member or even if you're interested in supporting the work of the Legion in helping veterans and their families, why don't you join us and see what we're all about. In spite of the current crisis, or perhaps because of it, the Legion here is Spain is providing help and assistance to an unprecedented number of Beneficiaries. The money raised in Spain during the annual Poppy Appeal stays here to those who find themselves in need, so your support is needed every bit as much this year as in previous years.
Corona Virus Information
In the current crisis, we all need access to the best possible information. We will be posting documents and links here and on our Facebook page to help our Members stay abreast of the latest developments. Follow this link to the dedicated page.
Stop Press - Another Successful Poppy Appeal!!!
The Javea Branch of The Royal British Legion is proud and delighted to announce that the total raised for the 2019 Poppy Appeal was €7,588 towards this year's District North Spain total of over €156k. Most people won't be aware that the majority of this money will actually be spent here in Spain to support Veterans and their families.
We want to thank all of the businesses, groups and individuals who helped us to raise this huge amount of money. In today's climate, we know that money is tight but your generosity is fantastic. Every penny raised by the Poppy Appeal goes to help ex-Service personnel of all ages and their families all over the world, whenever they are in need. Your generous donations will make a substantial difference to their lives - thank you again Javea and the surrounding area!
Supporting Veterans and Their Families
The Legion provides financial, social and emotional care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces - past and present and their families. The Legion is also the national Custodian of Remembrance and safeguards the Military Covenant between the nation and its Armed Forces and is best known for the annual Poppy Appeal and its emblem, the red poppy.
Founded in 1921, the Legion is not just about those who fought in the World Wars of the last century, but also about those involved in the many conflicts since 1945 and those still fighting for the freedom we enjoy today.
District North Spain covers an area from the French Border to Roquetas de Mar in Almeria, both the coastal regions and inland. If you feel our District Community Support Team may be able to help you or someone close to you, please contact them for a confidential chat as follows:
