Haughley

A special family fun day was organised for the 19th July 2014 to commemorate the remembrance for the village from the great war. The day was held on the playing fields and consisted of 2 Christmas truce football matches with exchange of gifts. Haughley Youth Vs Haughley Youth won 5 - 2 and Haughley Pals 2 - Bury Pals (3 and 4 regt AAC) 10. The children were treated to an array of displays from Kuk Sool Won Korean martial arts, Zoe Steranfitness and Diamond Lites majorettes. The football players were piped onto the football pitch by the bagpipers society in Ipswich to various tunes. There were lots of community stalls and fun for all. The chairman had his WW1 tent which aroused a lot of interest. Lorraine Mcclure who's son Aaron was killed in action in 2007  presented the footballers with their certificates and WW1 poppy pins! As always we are greatfull for the generosity of the village and of the volunteers who put so much effort into the day.

£1532.35 was raised for the poppy appeal 2014.
