Welcome to the Hathersage Branch of The Royal British Legion
Hathersage Remembrance Parade
Sunday 10th November 2024
The annual Remembrance parade and Church service will be taking place in Hathersage on Sunday 10th November and will follow the usual format.
Parade participants should congregate adjacent to the Oddfellows Road car park from 09.30, ready to march off at 10.00. The parade, organised on behalf of the Hathersage Parish Council by Hathersage British Legion, will be led by the drum line, followed by Legion members, then contingents from Hathersage Firemen, Hathersage Guides, Brownies, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers, and, of course, Army and Royal Air Force cadets from Mount St Mary’s College, Spinkhill.
This impressive body will follow the route down Station Road, up Main Road, along School Lane and then up to the Parish Church for the service at 10.30. During the parade, both up to the Church and returning after the service, Tom Wain will be organising marshals, who will close off the roads to traffic where necessary.
As parking is limited at church, parking is available at the Hathersage Business Centre (for which thanks are due to the Shuttleworth family). Additionally, we will again be offering a free shuttle-bus service to take people from the Business Centre up to, and back from the Church which will be on a ‘pre-booked’ time-slot basis only. Anyone wanting to take advantage of this should make arrangements by emailing: ward.sage@btopenworld.com or telephone 01433 650388, no later than 12.00 noon on 9th November.
The Church service, led by the Ven Paul Moore, will commence at 10.30, during which wreaths will be laid on the War Memorial inside the Church, and afterwards on the War Graves outside. All sixteen graves commemorating others, who lost their lives in various conflicts, will each have a commemorative wooden cross placed on them by the Beaver Scouts.
After the return of the parade to the War Memorial Hall, all participants and helpers will again be welcome to join the Legion when they will congregate at the Scotsman’ Pack Inn.

About The Royal British Legion
We provide financial, social and emotional care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces - past and present and their families. The Legion is also the national Custodian of Remembrance and safeguards the Military Covenant between the nation and its Armed Forces and is best known for the annual Poppy Appeal and its emblem the red poppy.
Founded in 1921, the Legion is not just about those who fought in the World Wars of the last century, but also about those involved in the many conflicts since 1945 and those still fighting for the freedom we enjoy today.
