Minutes of the Meeting: Held 20 May 2015

Present: There were 20 members and 1 guest present.

1. ACT OF HOMAGE

The Chairman gave the exhortation to all the fallen

2. APOLOGIES

Apologies were received from 3 members

3. ADDITIONS TO THE AGENDA

  • Eric Colley: Is the annual allotment to Alderson House still legitimate?

    • The Chairman assured us that it is

  • Bill Carline: Work starts shortly on The Frecheville monument and should be finished in time for VJ Day

  • Walter Whiteley: VJ Day celebrations will be along a similar line to those of VE Day. Details will follow when available.

  • Walter Whiteley: Armed Forces Day Celebrations, 20th June, will be along the same lines as last year. Details will follow when available.

 

4. MINUTES OF THE BRANCH MEETING HELD 15 April 2015

Proposed by Gwen Wilkinson, seconded by Derek Wilkinson, that the minutes of the previous meeting be passed as read.

5. MATTERS ARISING

  • Steve Bush: The VE Day Wreath Laying Ceremony was well attended and passed off very smoothly. The “Tea and Biscuits” with The Mayor which followed was also very enjoyable. There a few photos on the branch website

  • Gwen Wilkinson: The VE Day social event held in the cathedral was of the very highest calibre, and was attended by over four thousand people.

  • Chairman: The new Membership Form is now available and is being circulated

    • Some discussion followed about payments and the need to ensure that members don't pay twice.

6. CORRESPONDENCE

  • A copy of the proposed membership form is available here

  • An updated version of the Ceremonial Handbook is available in soft copy form from the Secretary

7. TREASURER'S REPORT

  • RBL Account £259.44

- £119.00 taken out for membership fees

 

  • 3rd Wednesday £1200 now spent on poppy jewellery items, making a total of £6300 to date.

  • The Treasurer then gave a résumé of Poppy Appeal items and asked for suggestions on which further items he might purchase.

9. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT

  • The Sheffield Armed Forces Day Parade for 2015 will take place on 20th June. Full details will follow

  • The Branch Gazebo will be at the Sheffield Fayre in Norfolk Park on the August Bank Holiday weekend, Sun 30th and Mon 31st August, 10:30 to 17:30

  • The Chairman then gave a résumé of the National Conference and commented on a few items of discussion. This was followed by general discussions on Branch Welfare Reform, and Poppy Lottery D2D.
