Minutes of the Meeting: Held 19 Feb 2014

 

Meeting Opening: Meeting opened at 19:10 Hrs. The Act of Homage was duly observed.

 

Present: There were 16 members and 9 guests present. Roll call available from the secretary.

 

Apologies: There were 3 apologies.

 

Minutes of the last meeting: Proposed by Eric Colley, seconded by Derrick Wilkinson, that the Minutes of the previous meeting be passed as read.

Matter arising:

 

The total for the 2013 Poppy Appeal for the Branch is now finalised at

£39, 458.92

 

The March 19th Branch Meeting will be a Pie'n'Peas Supper at the Fairways, to celebrate the excellent efforts in the 2013 Poppy Appeal. A very brief meeting will be held at 7PM and invited guests are expected to arrive from 7:30 onwards. The cost for guests will be £2.50 per head. Members of the TS Sheffield Sea Cadets and the Mosbrough Air Cadets, who played a part in the Poppy Sales last year, have been invited.

 

The Chairman gave an update on the RBL Helpdesk service in Sheffield, and circulated the freefone contact number. 0800 802 8080

 

A “Coin Counter” has been bought, at a cost of £136.98, to help speed up the daily cash computation during future Poppy appeals.

 

Dated Poppy Pins for 2014 will hopefully be made available in the near future.

Eight potential new members were introduced and welcomed.

Proposals:

 

Proposed by Dave Warburton, Seconded by Margaret Stracey, that the Savings and Legion accounts be incorporated into the RBL's LOMAS system as Branch Fund Initiatives. This raised much discussion but was approved

Proposed by Derrick Wilkinson, Seconded by Phil Thickett, that the Annual allotment to Byng House be stopped, as it is outside our area, and the resulting £500 to be made available to BFI.

The Treasurer asked members to consider on taking on the role of acting treasurer, which would include “LOMAS” training

 

Bill Carline spoke of a Plaque dedication to fallen soldiers, at Frecheville Community Centre on Saturday15 Mar 2014. All members and guests are very welcome to attend. Meet at Birley Hotel, Birley Moor Road, S12 4WB at 10am. The Branch Standard will be carried.

 

Bill Carline gave an update on the proposed Memorial Dedication at Frecheville, planned for 8 May 2015. Fund raising is going well.

 

Jack Mitchell Circulated photos from the Crystal Peaks Remembrance Day Parade

 

Fred Hall gave a brief synopsis of his colourful military career.
