Welcome to the East Barnet Branch of The Royal British Legion
The Family Fun Day held 2nd June in celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. After months of organisation, when all the helpers turned up at 8am to start setting up gazebo's & stalls the weather did not look promising, it was that fine drizzling rain that makes everything wet. However, we all got to work, the Hog Roast organisers had been there since before 7am & the hogs were cooking nicely. The Bouncy Castles & 40 foot Bouncy Assault Course for the children was quickly erected. After a brief break of sausage & bacon sandwiches, several cups of tea or coffee, the road was closed at 10am, so that the stalls & stage for the live entertainment could be erected. By 12pm, with thanks to the many helpers we were ready to go & the rain had stopped, although it was a little chilly.
The Grand Opening was held. The ATC Band marched down the road & after an introduction by our Branch Chairmen, Mr Doug Read, Dazzling Darren Barker offically opened the event & the sun shone.
We had various live entertainment such as Tim Lettman, Danni Pincus & Raw Az. Plus a dance group from East Barnet School.
The Deputy Mayoress Kate Salinger, escorted by her husband Brian Salinger attended, along with Teresa Villiers & 2 First Team Players from The Saracens Rugby Club, Kelly Brown & Joe Maddock.
Thanks to : St John's Ambulance, who not only treated the few cuts & bruises sustained but willing showed people around the amblance & talked about their role. The East Barnet Safer Neighbourhood Police Team, who not only helped with the road closure but also handed out information & answered questions. Barnet Fire Brigade who sent an appliance down, before being called away. The varous stall holders and all the helpers, including Legion Committee members, family & friends that helped make the day a success.
Branch Chairman Doug Read and Dazzling Darren Barker open our event.
