 ABOUT US

 Branch Community Support (Welfare) is at the heart of everything we do. We are one of the UK's largest membership organisations; Over 300,000 members show their support for the work we do. We work with all political parties, campaigning to improve the lives of all Service people - past, present and future. We safeguard the memory of those who have given their lives for our freedom through Remembrance education and events. We organise the annual Poppy Appeal; remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and raising money to help those in need today.

We help members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, Reservists, veterans and their families all year round.

 We work with politicians to improve the lives of the Armed Forces community and have been campaigning on their behalf since 1921.

The Royal British Legion provides lifelong support for the Armed Forces community - serving men and women, veterans, and their families

Caseworkers and Hospital/Home Visitors

Two of the most fulfilling volunteer roles the Legion has to offer are as Caseworkers and Hospital/Home Visitors.

Helping us to deliver our Poppy Support services to those who have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, Volunteer Caseworkers and Hospital/Home Visitors are the face of the Legion.

You do not need any previous experience to be a volunteer Caseworker or Hospital/Home Visitor, but previous knowledge, training or even an interest in a health, social services or a welfare field can be a real advantage.  All volunteers are offered free training and out-of-pocket expenses. Caseworkers and Home Visitors are subject to screening, as they are in contact with vulnerable people.

We are seeking to recruit Caseworkers and Hospital/Home Visitors to assist us in the delivery of welfare services.  You will need access to a vehicle and a computer.  Please contact our Branch Caseworkers (listed below) to see how they can assist you.

The work of the Dungannon/Moy Branch Community Support Committee has continued this year to carry out a large number of Caseworker duties and hospital/home visits.   Advice has also been given to many people on DHSS benefits, war pensions and service pensions.

We would like to remind members that they should notify the Branch Community Support Secretary Noel Irwin - email: jamesirwin6262@live.co.uk    or any member of the BCS Committee of any members of the ex-Service community who they believe are suffering hardship or in need of help.

Through our national network of trained Caseworkers, The Royal British Legion is working jointly with SSAFA Forces Help on a Prison In-Reach programme. Together, we can offer advice and practical support to ex-Service people who are serving a prison sentence and their immediate dependants.

Worried about a sudden expense? If you're going through a crisis and need help to meet unexpected expenses, the Legion might be able to help you.

Each year our Immediate Needs Grants Scheme helps thousands of people through emergencies by providing small hardship grants.

What is it?

The Scheme doesn't provide cash, but can provide essentials for you and your household in times of need.

A grant might be to cover the costs of something like:

•   a funeral;
•   furniture and household appliances;
•   essentials, like food and clothing;
•   mobility vehicles;
•   adaptations to your home for a disability; or
•   help getting into rented accommodation.

But we'll carefully consider the individual needs in most situations, so don't hesitate to get in touch.

However, you should be aware that we are not able to help with the following:

•   where state assistance or statutory services are available
•   repayment of business debts
•   legal expenses, such as county costs and solicitors' fees
•   loans, other than Property Repair and Be the Boss loans
•   medical care.

Am I eligible for help?

If you're a Legion beneficiary (ex-Service and your dependants) and you fulfil our welfare needs and financial criteria, we'll consider you for a grant.

The Royal British Legion "Battle Back" Centre Opens

 The Royal British Legion is providing £27 million to establish and operate The Battle Back Centre (Lilleshall) as part of its commitment to support wounded, injured and sick Service personnel.

The Battle Back Centre provides sports and adventurous activities for wounded, injured and sick Service men and women from all three Services and was officially opened by Olympic Gymnast Beth Tweddle on 22nd November.

The Battle Back Centre (Lilleshall) is funded and operated by the Royal British Legion, in partnership with the MOD. Through a partnership with Sport England, the Centre has been established at Lilleshall National Sports Centre where many Olympians, including Beth Tweddle herself, and Paralympians train - providing an inspiring environment for recovery

This is another great example of how money raised through fundraising and donations to the Royal British Legion can really make a difference to the lives of Service Personnel.
