History of the Boston Branch

Boston was the site of one of the most active Branches of The National Federation of Discharged and Demobilized Sailors and Soldiers with a regular article in The Boston Guardian.

The Unity conference between the Federation, the National Association of Discharged Sailors and Soldiers and The Officers Association was held on 14-15 May 1921 and the Boston Branch was one of the first, being formed on 27 June 1921.

Our original Branch Number was "007" and we believe that our Branch was the seventh Branch formed in the country.

With the date coinciding with the date chosen for Veterans Day, on 27 June 2006 a tree was planted in Boston's Central Park to commemorate our 85th Anniversary. Sadly, the tree didn't last long as it was removed by Anglian Water when they dug it up six weeks later!! The replacement tree died whilst still in its pot, the next one planted died and number 4 was planted on Remembrance Day 2009 so hopefully this one will have more luck!
