Most associations rely on a voluntary committee, to organise their club/society ... and the RBL is no different. To try and give current and potentially new Branch members, an idea as to who are the Blyth Branch committee members, I've included some details below:
Richard (Rick) Young, Ex Royal Navy, Oct 1962 to 01 Dec 1974.
Grade/Rank: Radio Supervisor (W), x5 ships and x8 shore bases.
Throughout my 12 years of service, I visited many parts of the globe, both onboard ships and onshore based establishments. I spent 2 years on HMS Terror in Singapore. My most memorable time, aged 17 years, was spent attending the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
On 15 September 1964, served on HMS Hampshire during the Malaya Peninsula conflict (GSM). I served in the Far East and Middle East areas, mainly in the Persian Gulf and latterly, as a Communications Officer, attached to the Royal Marines, a detachment from HMS Ashanti.
Since leaving the Service in 1974, I made a career in HM Coastguard until my first retirement in 2004. I then became the District Controller at Tyne Tees Maritime Rescue Sub-centre. During this time, I did a spell as the Regional Operations Manager for Counter Pollution and Salvage for the East Coast of England.
Retiring 'again' from HMCG, I have been employed in the Newcastle Magistrates Court for 12 months. I was employed at HM Prison Acklington, Northumberland for approximately 6 years with my roles being in the Drugs Rehabilitation Unit, Custody Office and the Health and Safety department, dealing specifically with litigation matters.
In June 2012, I retired again before working part-time at the Port Of Blyth for 6 years.
I AM NOW RETIRED !!
