Blyth, Northumberland

Welcome to the Blyth Branch of the Royal British Legion.

The Royal British Legion (RBL) is the UK's leading Armed Forces charity and one of its largest membership organisations. Through a network of branches and clubs, all over the country and overseas, our members get together to participate in various social, fundraising and Branch Community Support activities.

The Legion also encourages younger membership and will welcome Youth Members (aged 14-17 inclusive) who can join for free and get involved with branch activities.   It's a great way to gain experience and make your work CV stand out more than other school leavers.  We also have strong links with Blyth and surrounding area Cadets and Scout/Guides organisations who join us for our annual Remembrance Parades.

Do you know a young person who is interested in joining?  If so, please get in touch with blyth.secretary@rbl.community or message the Facebook page Blyth Royal British Legion as their joining process is different to that of adults.

RBL membership is open to everyone.  If you have an interest in RBL objectives and want to help/support those who have served the military and their families, please come and join us.  We welcome all ages, whether they have served in HM Armed Forces or not and actively encourage our community members to join us at our events.

Legion membership ensures that:

  • The Remembrance Service is kept alive and the personal sacrifices that our brave Service men and women are never forgotten.
  • Comradeship and support from those with similar experiences.
  • The ex-Service community have a voice and their concerns are brought to the public eye.
  • We are visible in the local community and welcome all who support us.

Blyth is seen as an active, supportive and thriving branch. We have a weekly Sunday Breakfast Club, supported by Wetherspoons (The Wallaw, Union St, Blyth). A monthly members social, and are invited to attend most of the major events in Blyth throughout the year, including The Live Music Event, Rotary Classic Car Rally, and Blyth Battery Goes to War weekend all at the beach.

We have two fundraising parties at Christmas and an anniversary celebration in the spring. We welcome anyone who would like to play a more active part in the branch be that on the committee, a sub committee, Poppy Appeal etc.

About The Royal British Legion:

We provide financial, social and emotional care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces both past and present, together with their families.  The Legion is also the national Custodian of Remembrance and safeguards the Military Covenant between the Nation and its Armed Forces.  However, it is best known for the annual Poppy Appeal and its emblem … the red poppy.

Founded in 1921, the Legion is not just about those who have fought in the World Wars of the last century but also about those involved in the many conflicts since 1945, including those still fighting for the freedom we enjoy today.

Visit www.britishlegion.org.uk for details of our national initiatives.
