Great Pilgrimage (GP 90)

Welcome to the Ackworth and Pontefract Branch of The Royal British Legion

The Great Pilgrimage (GP 90) replicated the original Pilgrimage to Belgium and France in 1928.  Ten years after the end of WW1 survivors and relatives of those who made the supreme sacrifice made a pilgrimage to the battle areas of the Somme and Ypres.  The pilgrimage culminated with a service at the Menin Gate.

On 5th August 2018 the chairman and standard bearer of Ackworth and Pontefract Branch joined over 1000 other British Legion Branches for a battlefield tour and a march to The Menin Gate in Ypres on 8th August.  A representative from each branch laid a wreath at the Menin Gate.
