Welcome to the Ackworth and Pontefract Branch of The Royal British Legion

This was a particularly special commemoration:  One hundred years since the Armistice of 1918.

Parades and Services were held in Pontefract and Ackworth.  The parade in Pontefract was led by The Yorkshire Imperial Band.  In addition the band of The Kings School played hymns during the wreath-laying ceremony at the Pontefract War Memorial.  A Deputy Lieutenant was in attendance.  The parade was very well supported in terms of participants and spectators.  The service was held in St Giles Parish Church.

The service at Ackworth War Memorial was also very well supported.  The music was played over a sound recording system using CDs.  In the evening there was a special service at St Cuthbert's church at which decommissioned standards were received into the care of the church.
